I travelled to Shiraz by a night bus from Isfahan and spent only a day here. The city is noticeably more Southern and hilly.

Persepolis

Persepolis was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire. It’s ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s situated about 60km from Shiraz. We went there by taxi using Snapp. The driver insisted on waiting for us for 3 hours at the site and taking us back for a total price of 3,000,000 rials ($6).

I expected this place to be a desert, but I was happy to see green grass.

My favourite site in Shiraz was the Holy Shrine. You can visit it only with a free tour guide, who will tell you about this place in English. Our guide did a great job.

Holy Shrine of Hazrat Shahcheragh

It’s stunning inside.

The guide told us not to go any closer to the Holy Shrine itself.
