Goja del Pis is a waterfall not far from Turin, perfect for a day trip. To get there I took a train to Avigliana from Turin Porta Nuova. The journey takes 30 mins and costs €3.60 one way. Then I walked about 6-7km to get to the waterfall.

Avigliana

First I got to Avigliana. It’s a nice clean town. I then proceeded to head North towards Almese. It’s a smaller town which is close to our final destination.

Crossing the Dora river

There is a bus that goes to Almese but I can’t be bothered dealing with Italian buses so I walked. The walk turned out to be rather pleasant. The trick is to turn right from the busy road and walk along a more peaceful rural road. It’s not that much longer and it leads to the same place.

Busy road

I love walking. Walking is the best activity for thinking.

Almese

After about an hour walk I got to Almese.

Notice the V used instead of U in COMVNE

Almese has some slick street art.

Day & night

The rest of the journey to the waterfall is about 1.5km of walking uphill, but not too high and not too steep.

Goja del Pis

I was thinking about how it’s weird that the name of the waterfall contains the letter “j”, while it is not present in the Italian alphabet, when I saw a dead snake.

Path

Soon I heard the water and went to check it out. To get closer to the waterfall I had to take my shoes off and then climb over some big smooth rocks.

And here’s the waterfall.

Closer

I went for a swim. The water was freezing & fresh. I imagined the ice caps of the Alps melting and producing this crystal clear refreshing water.

Going for a dip

In places like this I feel a connection to nature, as if this waterfall is where I should be.
